‘The Fast and the Furious’ actor Tyrese Gibson turned himself in to authorities in Georgia early Friday, following a week-long delay after an arrest warrant was issued on charges of animal cruelty, as per reports.

Gibson was booked into a Fulton County jail and released the same day on a $20,000 bond, according to Fulton County Police Captain Nicole Dwyer. However, officials say he has yet to hand over his four Cane Corso dogs, which investigators allege were involved in the fatal mauling of a neighbour’s small dog in mid-September. Authorities also noted that the dogs had been spotted roaming the neighbourhood without supervision on multiple occasions.

The September 18 incident left a neighbour’s spaniel critically injured after being attacked and later dying at a veterinary clinic. Minutes afterward, surveillance cameras recorded Gibson’s dogs on the property of another neighbour, who called police after feeling unsafe. A search warrant for Gibson’s property was issued alongside the arrest warrant, though Gibson initially requested more time before surrendering his pets.

Through his attorney, Gabe Banks, Gibson offered condolences to the family, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. Banks stated Gibson was away at the time of the attack but accepted full responsibility for his pets, adding that he immediately rehomed two adult Cane Corsos and three puppies to prevent any future incidents.

In his own words, Gibson described himself as a lifelong dog lover who had raised multiple breeds over the years and never trained his dogs for aggression. He said the tragedy left him “shocked, devastated, and heartbroken”, particularly as he is still grieving the recent loss of his father.

“To the family who lost their beloved pet, please know that I am praying for you, grieving with you, and will continue to face this tragedy with honesty, responsibility, and compassion,” Gibson said.
