The Cannes Film Festival has announced a strict new dress code for the 2025 event, with a particular emphasis on decorum. “Nudity is strictly prohibited on the red carpet and in all areas of the festival. In addition to this, outfits with voluminous designs, such as long train dresses, are also banned as they hinder movement or seating,” stated the festival website.

“For the Grand Théâtre Lumière gala screenings, attendees must wear evening attire such as long dresses or tuxedos. Alternatively, a ‘little black dress,’ cocktail dresses, or a dark-colored pantsuit are acceptable. Men are required to wear a black or navy-blue suit with a bow-tie or dark-colored tie,” it added.

Moreover, it noted that elegant shoes are mandatory, and sneakers are not allowed. Large bags like tote bags or backpacks are prohibited, but lockers will be available near the Gare Maritime for storage.

“For general screenings, proper attire is still required but the dress code is more relaxed. The festival’s team will ensure that anyone not adhering to these guidelines will be denied access to the red carpet,” it concluded.
