Director Matt Reeves confirms Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan in The Batman: Part II

Director Matt Reeves has confirmed a major wave of new casting for The Batman Part II, significantly expanding the world of Robert Pattinson’s Gotham-set superhero saga. The sequel to 2022’s The Batman is set to introduce several major new faces, including Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Charles Dance, and Brian Tyree Henry, as Reeves continues building a darker, more grounded version of the DC universe, as per reports.
One of the biggest additions is Sebastian Stan, who will reportedly portray Gotham district attorney Harvey Dent. Rather than presenting Dent immediately as the villain Two-Face, the sequel is expected to focus on his gradual emotional and psychological decline as he attempts to fight corruption in Gotham while being consumed by the city’s darkness and his own inner struggles.
Scarlett Johansson has been cast as Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife, whose role in the comics is deeply tied to Harvey’s personal downfall. Her inclusion hints that the film may explore the emotional side of Dent’s transformation in greater depth instead of turning him into a traditional comic-book antagonist right away.
Charles Dance, widely known for playing Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, will portray Christopher Dent, Harvey’s father. The casting suggests the sequel could dive into Harvey’s troubled childhood and the emotional trauma that shaped his future long before becoming one of Gotham’s most feared villains.
As per reports, Reeves has also added more mystery to Gotham with the casting of Brian Tyree Henry and German actor Sebastian Koch in undisclosed roles. Koch’s addition has already sparked speculation online, with many believing he could portray a businessman, politician or another influential member of Gotham’s elite.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the new casting announcements indicate that Gotham’s world is becoming larger, darker and more dangerous. Reports suggest production is set to begin in the UK on May 29, 2026, ahead of the film’s planned worldwide theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
