Delhi High court refuses more time to Rajpal Yadav in cheque bounce case

The Delhi High Court on Thursday declined to grant Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav additional time to clear dues in a cheque bounce case, taking a stern view of repeated delays and inconsistent submissions, as per reports.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma reportedly rejected Yadav’s request for 30 more days to pay ₹6 crore as part of a settlement, stating firmly that no further time would be allowed. The court also questioned the continued delay, observing that if payment was possible, the matter should not still be pending, as per reports.
The case stems from a complaint filed by M/s Murli Projects Private Limited under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, related to dishonoured cheques.
Earlier, in May 2024, a sessions court had convicted Yadav and sentenced him to six months in jail. His sentence was later suspended by the High Court after his legal team assured that the dispute would be resolved amicably, following which the case was referred to mediation.
However, with delays in settlement, the court expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of progress. Yadav had also surrendered before jail authorities in compliance with court directions during the proceedings.
The High Court has now reserved its judgment in the matter.
