The global K-pop armies were left concerned after RM, leader of BTS, sustained a significant ankle injury during rehearsals for the group’s upcoming ‘ARIRANG’ comeback concert, his agency confirmed on March 20.

In an official statement, BigHit Music said the injury occurred on March 19 during intensive dance practice. Medical examinations revealed a sprain of the accessory navicular, a partial ligament tear, and a talus contusion, commonly described as a bone bruise.

Despite the injury, RM is expected to take part in the scheduled performance at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21, although with restricted choreography and while wearing a leg cast. The artist has reportedly expressed a strong desire to remain involved in the event.

Doctors have advised him to minimise movement and wear a cast for at least two weeks to aid recovery. The agency added that while the injury is painful, it is not considered career-threatening.

An accessory navicular sprain occurs in individuals who have an extra bone on the inner side of the foot, a congenital condition seen in a portion of the population. Injury to this area can be particularly painful as it is closely connected to the posterior tibial tendon, which supports the arch of the foot.

The incident has prompted concern among fans worldwide, though assurances from both the agency and the artist indicate that he is on track for recovery with appropriate care.
