According to international media reports, Smith was found stabbed to death in her New Jersey home. TMZ confirmed on Wednesday that authorities discovered her with multiple stab wounds at the scene.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, alongside Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan, reportedly announced that Smith’s boyfriend, Jordan D. Jackson-Small, has been taken into custody and charged in connection with her death.
Smith’s Broadway career spanned from September 27, 2011, to September 23, 2012. Beyond her work on stage, she was a devoted mother to a three-year-old child.
In the wake of the tragedy, her family set up a GoFundMe to honor her memory, stating: “With heavy hearts, we mourn the senseless loss of our beloved Imani Dia Smith, who was taken from us by her boyfriend on the morning of Sunday, December 21st, just days before Christmas.”
The post added, “Imani was only 25. She leaves behind her young son, her parents, two younger siblings, and a large community of friends and loved ones who cherished her.”
Her family now faces the heartbreaking task of grieving while stepping in to raise her son and support her other children during this incredibly difficult time.
