Anirudh Ravichander-Kavya Maran’s Wedding Invite Is a Sculpted Keepsake in Powder Blue, Ivory and Silver

When music composer Anirudh Ravichander and media heiress Kavya Maran decided to send out their wedding reception invitations, they opted for understated elegance over flashy designs. Their invitation is a handcrafted, three-dimensional box featuring intricate carvings, silver accents and a soothing palette of powder blue and ivory.

Designed and handcrafted by Ranjani Iyengar, founder of design atelier Pink Whistle Man, the elaborate invitation has been conceived as a keepsake rather than a conventional wedding card.

A Sculpted Box With Antique-Inspired Details

The invitation comes in a substantial, architectural box adorned with floral patterns and scrollwork carvings. Silver-toned hinges and an oval crest with a silver finish complete its antique-inspired appearance.

The structure opens through multiple doors, revealing layers of carefully designed stationery inside. The combination of intricate detailing and muted colours gives the invitation a distinctive look without relying on bright hues or excessive ornamentation.

According to Iyengar, the couple wanted a classic design that did not explicitly narrate their relationship through graphics or overly personal elements.

“The idea was to keep the invitation classic without making it too personal or explicitly telling their story through the design,” she said, explaining that powder blue, ivory and silver were chosen to create a soothing, elegant effect.

The Engineering Behind the Elaborate Invitation

The box presented a significant design and construction challenge. Its intricate carvings and multiple lids had to be supported without compromising the intended appearance or structural integrity.

“The box itself is extremely intricate and unique in its construction. Figuring out the structure was quite complex because it had to support the lids' weight while maintaining the intended design,” Iyengar explained.

The process involved working through the construction details and sourcing specialised components. Craftspeople, printing specialists and the printer’s team collaborated to bring the design to life.

Each box was handcrafted and hand-painted to preserve the three-dimensional relief work, making the invitation as much a feat of craftsmanship as a piece of stationery.

Foil Stamping, Embossing and Wax Seals Inside

The detailing continues inside the box, where the stationery features fine foil stamping, relief embossing and vellum overwraps sealed with custom wax emblems.

Although the invitation incorporates elaborate textures and decorative elements, its colour scheme remains restrained. Powder blue and ivory form the base, while silver accents add a refined finish.

Iyengar described the approach as balancing maximalist craftsmanship with visual restraint, ensuring that the intricate design remained easy on the eyes.

Anirudh and Kavya’s Wedding Plans

The invitations have reportedly been sent to prominent personalities from politics, business and cinema. The guest list is said to include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, along with leading figures from the entertainment and business worlds.

Anirudh and Kavya are reportedly planning an intimate wedding ceremony in Greece in November, attended by close family members and friends.

A grand wedding reception is scheduled to take place in Chennai on November 21.
