‘Animal’ and ‘Sam Bahadur’ to release on same day, fans prepare for clash
Updated: Nov 30th, 2023
With Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ and Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sam Bahadur’ set to release this Friday (Dec 1), the two on-screen best friends from ‘Sanju’ will battle it out for the box-office glory.
With 72 million views in six days, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial piece ‘Animal’ is currently topping the ‘trending’ section of YouTube in India (films category). Meanwhile, Sam Bahadur, a biographical war drama based on the life of India’s first field marshal, Sam Manekshaw, has fetched 38 million in three weeks.
Vanga has tasted success in the Hindi industry before with Kabir Singh, and when the ‘Animal’ trailer went online, the similarities were bound to be drawn. A slap scene in Kabir Singh was the centre of controversy when Kabir Singh released, and the same shades could be seen in the ‘Animal’ trailer, too.
While people went gaga over Ranbir’s acting and the opening of the trailer, they were also critical about the socio-political stand of the movie, mentioning ‘misogyny’ and ‘toxicity’ in their reactions, trolling Rashmika Mandhanna for her enunciations at the same time.
Bobby Deol, standing on his own as a possible antagonist in the movie, also garnered praise for his appearance and screen presence despite a limited screen time in the trailer.
Sam Bahadur, a spectrum away
Sam Bahadur marks the second collaboration between Meghna Gulzar and Vicky Kaushal after the blockbuster ‘Raazi’.
In many ways, the movie’s trailer tells you how both the movies target different audiences. Kaushal plays the role of Field Marshal Sam Maneksaw, chief of the Indian army from 1969 to 1973.
The trailer may not have created as much noise as ‘Animal’, but it certainly has garnered praise for Kaushal’s portrayal of the man, and the added flair of it being a true story of a country’s hero adds to the excitement about it. After Uri: The Surgical Strike, this will be the second time Kaushal donned the army uniform.
