Ananya Panday trolled over Bharatanatyam scene in ‘Chand Mera Dil’

Actor Ananya Panday is facing heavy trolling on social media after a dance sequence from her latest film ‘Chand Mera Dil’ went viral online. The scene reportedly features a Bharatanatyam and contemporary fusion performance, but many users criticised her expressions, dance moves, and overall performance. 

The trolling increased after a social media user posted the clip on X and wrote, Bharatnatyam devolved in 200 BCE and ended with Ananya Pandey in 2026. The post received massive attention and sparked debate online. Several viewers reportedly said the dance lacked the grace and emotions usually associated with Bharatanatyam.

Comments like ‘No expression’, ‘No grace’, and ‘No emotions’ quickly spread across Instagram and X. Many users criticised the performance strongly. One user wrote, ‘They try so hard to hide her inability to dance’. Another commented, ‘As someone who has learned Bharatanatyam for 6 years, what tomfoolery is this’. Some users also targeted her acting career and screen presence. Many memes and edited clips from the film also became viral online as per reports.

Ananya Panday has often faced trolling since her Bollywood debut in Student of the Year 2. As the daughter of actor Chunky Panday, she became part of the ongoing nepotism debate in Bollywood. One of her biggest controversies happened after her appearance on the talk show Koffee With Karan, where she spoke about struggles in the film industry. The statement led to the viral meme ‘Struggle Pandey',and she faced major backlash online.

Despite criticism, Ananya has also received praise for films like Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and Gehraiyaan, where many viewers appreciated her improved acting performances.
