AMC makes only 15 per cent of non tax revenue budget in six months concerns raised
AMC's non tax revenue declines

A decline in the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s non-tax revenue has raised concerns, as the collection after six months is barely reaching 15% of the target set by the AMC.

In the 2025–26 budget, AMC set a target of ₹3,684 crore for non-tax revenue. But in the first six months, only ₹543 crore has been collected—barely 15% of the target. At this rate, by the end of the financial year, AMC’s total budget of ₹15,500 crore may face a huge shortfall.

In the first six months of the last financial year—from April 1, 2024, to September 22, 2024, AMC earned ₹545 crore as non-tax revenue. During the same period this year, it has collected only ₹543 crore, marking a decline of ₹2 crore.

While AMC officials claim that rental income has doubled and other income has increased 1.5 times, the overall revenue has dropped.

The income that AMC collects from citizens through taxes, fees, and various charges is termed as tax revenue. Meanwhile, income from rents of open plots and community halls, advertisement charges, sale of plots, fines and fees collected by the estate department, permit fees, etc, is categorised as non-tax revenue.
