Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has strongly criticised the recreated version of the famous song ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ from the 1999 film Biwi No. 1, sung by him. The new version features Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur in the upcoming film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’.

In an interview, Abhijeet said the recreated song sounded more like a bhajan than a romantic track. He reportedly said the original song had emotion and energy, which he feels are missing in the remake.

The singer also took a dig at Varun Dhawan, saying that the actor often works in remakes of old hit films and songs directed by his father, filmmaker David Dhawan.

Abhijeet stated that Varun cannot become Salman Khan by recreating his old songs and said there is a huge difference between the two actors. He further revealed that the makers of the film never contacted him before recreating the song.

The original ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ was sung by Abhijeet and Anuradha Sriram. The new version has vocals by IP Singh, Jonita Gandhi, Asees Kaur and Sudhir Yaduvanshi.

Abhijeet added that even if he had been approached for the remake, he might not have agreed because he believes the original song’s quality and performance could not be recreated. According to him, the original track became one of the biggest songs of Salman Khan’s career and remains popular even today.

Meanwhile, the recreated song has received mixed reactions on social media. Many users criticised it for losing the charm and emotion of the original version.

The trailer of ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ shows Varun Dhawan’s character wanting a child with his wife, played by Mrunal Thakur, while also getting involved with Pooja Hegde’s character. The story then turns into a comedy of confusion after both women become pregnant.

Apart from Varun, Pooja and Mrunal, the film also stars Maniesh Paul, Chunky Pandey and Jimmy Sheirgill in important roles. The film is scheduled to release on June 4.
