A R Rahman announces 40-day digital detox to focus on 'Ramayana'

Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman on Monday announced a 40-day digital detox during his concert here, saying he would step away from social media and online engagements to concentrate on his work for filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming magnum opus, ‘Ramayana’.
Rahman made the surprise declaration from the stage, drawing loud cheers from fans. Sources said the break is aimed at allowing the composer to complete key portions of the film’s music ahead of a major event scheduled for March 2026, where the cast and technical team of the project will be formally introduced.
The ambitious mythological drama, backed by producer Namit Malhotra, features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Raavan and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.
The film is planned as a two-part saga, with the first instalment slated for release during Diwali this year.
Sources close to the production said Rahman would be working at an accelerated pace during the 40-day period to meet the deadline ahead of the promotional event.
Apart from ‘Ramayana’, Rahman has multiple projects in the pipeline, including ‘Moon Walk’, which marks his reunion with actor-director Prabhu Deva, as well as other forthcoming films such as ‘Peddi’.
