2023 Wrapped: Most hyped movie trailers of the year
The hype for these movies reached unfathomable numbers, garnering millions of views
This year, the Superstars proved that they are still magnetic enough to pull the audiences through theatres, and the OTT threat is more of a coexistence than a complete takeover.
The hype for these movies reached unfathomable numbers, garnering millions of views to amass the buzz that filmmakers had intended.
The list, topped by Spy Universe’s latest addition Pathaan, also ends with its oldest spy-action machismo, Tiger 3.
Pathaan
10,02,44,000+ views
With over 10 crore views, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Pathaan attracted the most eyeballs for the Indian trailer releases this year on video sharing platform, YouTube. The movie, directed by Siddarth Anand, and a part of now YRF’s spy universe, translated the same hype with its collection numbers, too.
Adipurush
8,90,72,800+ views
A strange journey from its first trailer to its culmination, Adipurush left a bitter taste for many. After the initial trailer was panned by the audience, the makers took their time to retouch the movie. The Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer adaptation of Ramayana created buzz for all the wrong reasons, and the criticism didn’t stop after the release, too.
Jawan
8,47,55,700+ views
Another Shah Rukh Khan starrer in the mix, this one is special as this marks the collaboration between the Hindi film actor with Tamil director, Atlee. Right from the first-look reveal to the trailer that ended with Khan dancing to an old song, fans loved every moment of the journey. The movie, like Khan’s Pathaan, went on to break many collection records.
Pushpa 2
8,43,66,700+ views
The only movie in the list that still awaits a release, Pushpa 2 rode on the success of its first instalment, Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1. Starring Allu Arjun in the titular role, in a story that revolves around a sandalwood smuggler. The sequel promising more of revered actor Fahad Faasil, has garnered over 8 crore views on YouTube.
Dunki
8,80,07,200+ views
Dunki, a tale of people illegally entering a country, was a well-awaited collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani. The duo, now with a history of hits and only hits, created enough chatter among the fans of both to bring over 8,80,00,000 eyeballs to the trailer. The additional talent of Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal helped the cause, too.
Salaar (Hindi)
8,24,87,500+ views
The first instalment of a two-part movie series, Salaar is directed by Prashanth Neel, the same director who was at the helm of KGF films. The combination of Prabhas the actor and Prashanth the director was good enough to bring over 8 crore views for the trailer, putting it just below ‘Dunki’, released on the same date.
Animal
7,76,61,600+ views
The movie that was bound to create controversy even before its release was Animal. Movie’s director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s previous venture was much of a socio-political debate, and Animal was no different. The trailer, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, created both negative and positive buzz, enough to get more than 7 crore views.
Tu Joothi Main Makkar
7,71,04,800+ views
The second Ranbir Kapoor feature on the list, this one was Luv Ranjan’s take on a modern love story with Shraddha Kapoor as the love interest opposite Kapoor. The trio’s magic worked in favour of the movie’s hype, with the trailer garnering more than 7 crore views on the platform.
Leo
7,72,12,600+ views
Leo, a Tamil language movie starring Vijay in the titular role, also saw Sanjay Dutt and Trisha in the supporting roles. The movie is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has given many Tamil hits such as Master and Vikram. The combination, of an action thriller plot, was enough to make the trailer reach unfathomable numbers on YouTube.
Tiger 3
7,74,10,700+ views
The third instalment in the Tiger series saw Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif coming together after a long time, for the fifth instalment in the spy universe. This time, there was an added bonus of Emraan Hashmi, who also brought his fans to the fore, taking the view count of the trailer over 7 crore.
The concept of ‘pan-Indian’ hits that began with SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali has truly been accepted by the industry. One can paint a clear picture (or frame) of that pan-Indian acceptance if the most-watched trailers of the Indian movies are considered.
