Security Guard Gets 10-Year Jail Term for Attempted Sexual Assault of 10-Year-Old Girl in Daman

A court in Daman has sentenced a hospital security guard to 10 years' imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 for attempting to rape the 10-year-old daughter of a woman admitted for treatment in 2022.

The accused, identified as Prashant Dhananjay Kumar, was working as a security guard at Marwad Government Hospital when the incident took place.

Girl Allegedly Taken Away on Pretext of Getting Water

According to the prosecution, a woman from Daman was admitted to the hospital for treatment in January 2022. On the night of January 10, 2022, Kumar, who was on duty at the hospital, allegedly took her 10-year-old daughter to a secluded place on the pretext of getting drinking water.

The prosecution alleged that Kumar then physically assaulted the girl and attempted to rape her.

The girl managed to escape and later informed her mother about the incident, following which a police complaint was lodged. Kumar was subsequently arrested.

Police Collected Evidence, Filed Chargesheet

The investigation was carried out by the then Police Inspector of Nani Daman police station, Souhil Jiwani, and his team.

Police collected evidence and filed a chargesheet against the accused before the court.

During the trial before the Daman District and Sessions Court, public prosecutor Hariom Upadhyay relied on the testimony of 13 witnesses, including the victim, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory report and other evidence.

Court Awards 10-Year Prison Sentence

After hearing the matter, Judge Rajesh Tiwari convicted Kumar and sentenced him to 10 years' imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000.

The verdict comes more than four years after the alleged incident at the government hospital.
