Zomato Layoffs: Around 250 Jobs Hit As Hyderabad Support Centre Shuts Down

Around 250 Zomato employees are set to lose their jobs after the food delivery company decided to close its customer support operations in Hyderabad, according to an Economic Times report. The move comes as Zomato reviews its support structure and increasingly relies on external partners for customer service.

Support Operations To Be Centred In Gurugram

Zomato is moving its remaining in-house customer support operations to its Gurugram headquarters, according to people cited in the report.

The consolidation is aimed at bringing customer support closer to teams handling products, technology, analytics and business operations. Employees were informed about the decision on Monday following an internal review of the company’s support model and staffing requirements.

Over the last six months, a greater portion of Zomato’s customer support work has reportedly been shifted to third-party service providers.

Compensation Package For Affected Staff

Employees impacted by the Hyderabad closure will receive their salary for August along with pay equivalent to four months. This includes contractual notice pay and a one-time ex gratia amount.

Zomato will also extend medical insurance and counselling benefits to the affected employees until March 31, 2027.

The restructuring reflects a wider change across consumer internet companies, where customer service operations are increasingly being outsourced to specialised agencies, while automation is also reducing the requirement for large internal teams.

Zomato had earlier cut around 500 junior-level positions in April 2025.

Deepinder Goyal Shares Temple Update

Meanwhile, Zomato founder and former CEO Deepinder Goyal has shared an update on Temple, a wearable device being developed by his venture.

In a recent post on X, Goyal said the latest version of Temple is less than half the size of the device previously showcased. He claimed that, by volume, it is now the smallest wearable on the market while also calling it the “most powerful”.

Goyal said pre-orders for a limited launch edition of Temple will begin soon, with shipments expected before the end of 2026.

He did not disclose the device’s exact dimensions or provide technical details explaining how its size had been reduced.
