Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer at IndiGo, said the new fare has been introduced for customers who travel light and prefer to pay only for the services they need.
The airline also said that Lite Fare is not applicable for infants, corporates and group booking. It also mentioned that Lite Fare is available exclusively on IndiGo’s website, mobile application and 6Eskai.
Air India Also Testing Lower-Cost Fare
IndiGo's move comes shortly after Air India reportedly introduced a 'Basic Fare' category on select domestic routes as part of its efforts to offer cheaper flight tickets.
Under the new fare, Economy Class passengers receive a 15 kg checked baggage allowance, 7 kg cabin baggage allowance, and complimentary tea or coffee, but meals are not included. The airline said the fare is being tested on selected routes for travellers seeking lower ticket prices.
Passengers can still opt for Air India's Value, Classic, and Flex fare categories, which continue to include complimentary meals and additional benefits.
The introduction of lower-cost fare options by both IndiGo and Air India reflects a growing trend among airlines to offer more flexible pricing, allowing passengers to pay only for the services they need.
