Travelling With Cabin-Baggage-Only? Indigo Will Charge You Less
Indigo airlines introduces cheaper flight fares

IndiGo has launched a new 'IndiGo Lite' fare for Economy Class passengers travelling with only cabin baggage, offering a lower base fare and allowing customers to pay only for the services they use.

The new fare will be available for booking from July 1 through IndiGo's official website, mobile app and contact centre, for travel starting July 15. It will be applicable on domestic and international non-stop routes for one-way, round-trip and multi-city bookings.

Designed for Passengers Travelling Light

Under the IndiGo Lite fare, passengers will receive an auto-assigned seat and can carry up to 7 kg of cabin baggage. Check-in baggage is not included in the base fare but can be purchased separately.

Passengers can also add optional services such as check-in baggage, preferred seat selection, meals and priority services like Fast Forward up to one hour before departure through IndiGo's website or at the airport.

Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer at IndiGo, said the new fare has been introduced for customers who travel light and prefer to pay only for the services they need.

The airline also said that Lite Fare is not applicable for infants, corporates and group booking. It also mentioned that Lite Fare is available exclusively on IndiGo’s website, mobile application and 6Eskai.

Air India Also Testing Lower-Cost Fare

IndiGo's move comes shortly after Air India reportedly introduced a 'Basic Fare' category on select domestic routes as part of its efforts to offer cheaper flight tickets.

Under the new fare, Economy Class passengers receive a 15 kg checked baggage allowance, 7 kg cabin baggage allowance, and complimentary tea or coffee, but meals are not included. The airline said the fare is being tested on selected routes for travellers seeking lower ticket prices.

Passengers can still opt for Air India's Value, Classic, and Flex fare categories, which continue to include complimentary meals and additional benefits.

The introduction of lower-cost fare options by both IndiGo and Air India reflects a growing trend among airlines to offer more flexible pricing, allowing passengers to pay only for the services they need.
