Sensex falls 1,250 points, Nifty below 25,400 as IT, realty stocks drag market down
The Indian stock market fell sharply on Tuesday, with the Sensex dropping 1,250 points and the Nifty slipping below 25,400. Heavy selling in IT, media, and real estate stocks pulled the market lower.
Real estate stocks also came under pressure. The Nifty realty index fell 1.42%, with all 10 companies trading in the red. Shares of SignatureGlobal India dropped 2.9% to ₹956.65, Prestige Estate fell 2.7% to ₹1,448.1, while Godrej Properties declined 1.9% to ₹1,795.6, and Lodesh Group slipped 1.6% to ₹1,055.3.
Other stocks in the real estate index also witnessed selling pressure during the session, reflecting the broader weakness in the sector. Anant Raj declined by 1.4%, while Brigade Enterprises slipped 1.3%. The index heavyweight DLF also traded in the red, falling 1.1% to settle at ₹619.4. Meanwhile, Sobha, The Phoenix Mills, and Oberoi Realty also edged lower, although their losses remained relatively limited compared to some of their peers.
As for the Nifty realty index, it has been under sustained pressure, declining 3.6% over the past week and registering a drop of 8.4% so far this year, highlighting continued weakness in the real estate segment.
