Amid continued uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz and concerns about global oil supply disruptions, Nigeria-based oil producer SEEPCO, led by businessman Nitin Sandesara, supplied approximately six million barrels of crude oil to India's state-owned refiners between March and May.

According to reports, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) received the crude shipments from SEEPCO's Nigerian operations during a period when tensions in the Gulf region kept global energy markets on edge.

The crude supplied originated from Nigeria's Atlantic coast, avoiding the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping route that remains vulnerable to geopolitical tensions. Industry observers note that such alternative supply routes can provide additional flexibility for oil-importing nations during periods of uncertainty.

SEEPCO's shipments also underline Sandesara's continued presence in the international energy sector through Nigerian oil operations. The company is among the few Indian-linked firms involved in crude production within an OPEC member nation.

While six million barrels represent a small portion of India's overall crude imports, the supplies arrived at a time when refiners were closely monitoring developments in the Gulf and assessing alternative sourcing options.

With energy security remaining a key priority for India, the recent shipments have placed SEEPCO and its Nigerian operations back in focus as part of the country's broader crude procurement network.
