Mumbai becomes ‘Asia’s Billionaire Capital’ surpassing Beijing

India’s financial capital Mumbai has surpassed China’s Beijing and emerged as Asia’s billionaire capital per the 2024 Hurun Global Rich List.

Notably, the number of billionaires in Mumbai shot up by 58 more this year, totalling 386 wealthy individuals on the list.

As per Hurun’s Global Rich List 2024, Mumbai has become an epicentre for billionaires, as 92 billionaires are residing in Mumbai, while China’s Beijing is home to 91 billionaires.

The data suggests that along with being the billionaire capital of the continent, Mumbai is also the most preferred city of those making it to the Hurun India Rich list, as 25% of the listers reside in the city.

Mumbai now has the third-highest number of billionaires in the world. New York tops this list with 119 billionaires and is followed by London in the second spot with 97 billionaires.

Following Mumbai in the list, Delhi ranks second with 18 newly added individuals, taking its rich list entries to 217. Hyderabad surpassed Bengaluru for the first time this year.

Among Gujarat’s cities, Ahmedabad ranks seventh on the list with 67 rich list entries, and Surat ranks ninth below Pune with 28 rich individuals.

Indore and Jaipur, with nine individuals each, made their debuts on the list this year.
