India's Auto Sales Hit All-Time July Record as Passenger Vehicle Dispatches Surge 34%

Indian automakers shipped a record number of vehicles to dealerships in July, driven by surging demand for passenger cars, scooters, and three-wheelers ahead of the upcoming festive season.

Data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Thursday shows total passenger vehicle dispatches jumped 34.3 per cent year-on-year to reach 4,57,810 units, up from 3,40,772 units in July last year. The surge marks the highest sales volume ever recorded by the domestic car industry during the month of July.

Two-Wheelers and Commercial Carriers Post Double-Digit Gains

The expansion was visible across all major vehicle categories rather than isolated to luxury or entry-level cars. Two-wheeler dispatches rose 22.6 per cent to 19,23,483 units compared to 15,69,120 units in the corresponding period last year. Within this category, scooter sales climbed 23.7 per cent to 7,98,190 units, while motorcycle dispatches grew 20.7 per cent to 10,74,796 units. Moped sales witnessed the steepest climb, rising 48.6 per cent to 50,497 units.

Three-wheelers also posted heavy gains, climbing 33.4 per cent to 92,560 units against 69,403 units in July 2025. Passenger carriers accounted for the bulk of this movement at 77,994 units, up 32.9 per cent, while three-wheeler goods carriers advanced 40.3 per cent to 12,896 units. Electric mobility in the segment maintained a steady upward trend, with e-rickshaws rising 7.5 per cent to 1,132 units and e-carts growing 16.2 per cent to 538 units.

Festive Momentum Sets Up Strong Quarter for Auto Sector

Industry executives attribute the broad-based growth to improving consumer sentiment in semi-urban and rural markets, alongside inventory stocking by dealers preparing for early festive orders.

"India's auto industry delivered its strongest-ever July sales, with robust double-digit growth across Passenger Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers," said SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon. He noted that the positive momentum sustained over recent months provides a solid foundation for the market as showroom footfalls increase ahead of major regional festivals.
