Google cuts jobs in Pixel, Chrome, and software teams
The parent company of Google, Alphabet, has laid off hundreds of employees from its Platforms and Devices unit, following a voluntary exit program that was offered earlier this year.
The impacted division includes teams working on software, Pixel smartphones, and the Chrome browser. According to reports, the layoffs are part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at streamlining operations within the unit.
Back in January, Alphabet reportedly offered voluntary buyouts to some employees in this division. The recent layoffs suggest that the company is taking further steps to reduce its workforce in response to evolving business priorities and cost-efficiency goals.
This move highlights the ongoing shifts within major tech companies as they navigate post-pandemic market realities, technological advancements, and shifting consumer demands.
