Japan’s Honda R&D Co Ltd conducted a launch and landing test of an independently developed experimental reusable rocket on June 17.

This is the first time Honda successfully landed a rocket after reaching an altitude of nearly 300 metres.

Rocket specifications:

Total length: 6.3 m

Diameter: 85 cm

Weight: dry 900 kg/wet 1,312 kg

“This test marked the first launch and landing test conducted by Honda with an aim to demonstrate key technologies essential for rocket reusability, such as flight stability during ascent and descent, as well as landing capability,” said the Japanese multinational conglomerate.

According to Honda, since 2024, the company has been safely conducting engine combustion tests and hovering tests for its reusable rockets in Taiki Town in Hiroo District, Hokkaido, Japan.

As with all previous tests, Honda conducted this launch and landing test while placing the highest priority on safety and with the understanding and cooperation of local authorities and residents.
