EU imposes sanctions on three Indian firms for allegedly supporting Russia

The European Union (EU) on Thursday imposed sanctions on 45 entities, including three Indian companies, for their alleged support of Russia’s military and industrial sectors.

These measures are part of the EU’s 19th sanctions package, designed to escalate economic pressure on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

The EU has expanded sanctions to further weaken Russia’s military-industrial complex by:

Targeting individuals and companies, including UAE and Chinese suppliers, involved in Russia’s military sector.

Imposing new export restrictions on advanced dual-use technologies and materials used in weapons and propellants.

Banning exports of certain salts, ores, construction materials, and rubber products, worth €155 million in 2024.

“This package adds 45 entities to the list of those providing direct or indirect support to Russia’s military industrial complex or engaged in sanctions circumvention. This includes 28 established in Russia and 17 in third countries (12 in China, including Hong Kong, 3 in India and 2 in Thailand),” read an EU press release.

As per reports, the three Indian firms named in the sanctions notice are: Aerotrust Aviation Private Limited, Ascend Aviation India Private Limited and Shree Enterprises.
