The world was puzzled after the world’s richest man Elon Musk changed his X account name to a quirky name of ‘Kekius Maximus’ on Tuesday evening.

Musk, the owner of X, switched his name to viral meme character, Pepe the Frog.

The name, however, has created quite a stir in the crypto world. Musk’s move might seem a quirky gimmick but it is widely seen as a strategy to promote the KEKIUS meme coin among cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

After Musk changed the name, the coin surged by 1,500% against the US dollar, reaching a trading price of $0.16 per coin.

At this level, KEKIUS has skyrocketed by an impressive 20,889% within just two weeks, as per bitcoin.com

What is Kekius Maximus?

Kekius is believed to have originated from the meme character ‘Kek’ which is also a translation of the acronym ‘LOL’ (laugh out loud).

Widely used by gamers, ‘Kek’ is also the name of the ancient Egyptian god of darkness.

Musk’s close confidant, US President-elect Donald Trump is also somehow associated with the Kek, suggest reports.

According to the report, Kek, Pepe the Frog is said to have picked up prominence during Trump's presidential campaign and has been controversial for its association with free speech advocacy and far-right movements.

According to the official website of Kakius Maximus, it “embodies the spirit of internet rebellion, free speech, and the chaotic, beautiful mess that is online culture”.
