Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, one of Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks, will undergo its first large-scale restoration since opening in 1999, hotel operator Jumeirah has announced.
The work is expected to last around 18 months and will be carried out in phases, focusing primarily on preserving and updating the hotel’s interiors after more than two decades of continuous operation.
As per reports, the hotel will be closed for the duration of the restoration work.
The restoration will be led by French interior architect Tristan Auer, whose past projects include renovation work on historic luxury properties in Europe. According to Jumeirah, he was selected to oversee the project after an internal review process.
The Burj Al Arab, known for its sail-shaped design, has become one of Dubai’s most visible architectural symbols and a major part of the city’s tourism branding since its launch.
Opened at the end of the 1990s, the hotel helped establish Dubai’s reputation for high-end hospitality and remains among the city’s most internationally recognised buildings.
Jumeirah said the restoration is aimed at maintaining the building’s long-term structural and design integrity while retaining its original character.
The company has not yet disclosed whether parts of the hotel will be temporarily closed during the works.
