Doctor alleges negligence by crew on Bangalore-Delhi Indigo flight

A doctor onboard an Indigo flight from Bangalore to Delhi has shared a distressing experience on social media, alleging negligence by the airline crew after he was not served food by staff for a prolonged period.

Dr Datta took to his social media handle on X (formerly Twitter) to share the ordeal. He wrote, “My recent flight from Bangalore to Delhi turned into a nightmare that I hope no one else has to experience!”

The doctor, who has borderline sugar levels, highlighted the importance of timely meals for his medical condition. He mentioned that he always pre-books his meals to avoid any health complications. However, during the flight, despite multiple requests and hours of waiting, his meal was not served.

“After waiting for about half-an-hour, I politely asked if there was any problem. A crew member replied that another colleague would serve me,” Dr Datta wrote.

The situation worsened when the captain announced the plane’s descent, and the doctor was still without his meal or any response to the emergency light he had activated.

“Their complete indifference was infuriating and made me think: What if this neglect put someone in a medical emergency in real danger?” he added.

Eventually, an attendant served him a sandwich with black coffee, despite his pre-booked order of black tea with no sugar. Dr Datta mentioned that he recorded the entire conversation and noted the timeline of events.

He concluded by posing a critical question: “What if I were in a real danger situation? How would the airline have addressed it?” He also mentioned that he will be going to National Consumer Forum and will fight against this negligence of airlines towards passengers.

Responding to his tweets, the airline wrote, “Dr Datta, thank you for taking the time to speak with us and allowing us to address the matter. We sincerely apologise for the delay in serving your pre-booked meal and the inconvenience this caused. At IndiGo, we are committed to understanding and prioritising our customers' needs and comfort. Please be assured that we take your feedback seriously and have taken the necessary steps to prevent a recurrence. We truly appreciate your patience and look forward to the opportunity of serving you on your next journey.”
