Gujarat ACB books Bhuj PSI for accepting ₹40,000 Bribe

The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) posted at Vayor Police Station in Bhuj after he allegedly accepted a ₹40,000 bribe from a complainant during a trap operation.

The accused has been identified as Indravijaysinh Rajendrasinh Gohil, a Police Sub-Inspector (Class III) posted at Vayor Police Station, West Kutch, Bhuj.

According to the ACB, a criminal case had previously been registered against the complainant at Vayor Police Station. The PSI allegedly demanded ₹50,000 as a monthly payoff in exchange for not harassing the complainant and allowing the complainant's factory to continue operating.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant contacted the Gujarat ACB through its toll-free anti-corruption helpline 1064 and subsequently lodged a complaint at the ACB office in Gandhidham.

PSI allegedly accepted ₹40,000 after negotiation

Based on the complaint, the ACB organised a trap near the Gayatri Mandir gate in Bhuj. During the operation, the accused allegedly negotiated with the complainant and agreed to accept ₹40,000 instead of the initially demanded ₹50,000.

However, after accepting the money, the accused reportedly became suspicious of the trap, took the cash and fled from the spot. The ACB has registered an offence against the PSI and further investigation is underway.

The trap was conducted by Police Inspector J.B. Chaudhary of the Kutch (East) ACB Police Station, Gandhidham, under the supervision of Assistant Director K.H. Gohil, ACB Border Unit, Bhuj.
