A 34-year-old woman has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws, alleging physical and mental harassment, dowry demands and abuse after she opposed her husband’s alleged extramarital relationship.

Woman Alleges Years of Harassment

The woman, who lives with her parents near Bhat village close to the airport, married a Vadodara-based man in April 2017 according to social customs. The couple initially had a cordial relationship and have a six-year-old son.

According to the complaint filed at the East Women Police Station, the situation changed after around one-and-a-half years of marriage. The woman alleged that her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law began taunting her over household work and minor issues.

She further alleged that she was treated like a domestic servant even when she was pregnant in 2020, instead of being given proper care and support.

The woman said she later learnt about her husband's alleged extramarital relationship and confronted him. She alleged that he became angry and assaulted her.

In-Laws Allegedly Pressured Her for Dowry

When she raised the issue with her in-laws, they allegedly sided with their son and began pressuring her to bring cash from her parental home as dowry.

The woman also alleged that her sister-in-law, who lives in Kubernagar, would visit the couple's home and make provocative remarks over the phone, further escalating disputes between the couple.

According to the complaint, the woman again objected to her husband's alleged relationship in April 2026, following which a dispute broke out and her in-laws allegedly threw her out of the house.

Police have registered a case against the husband and other members of the woman's in-laws' family and started an investigation.

Woman Says She Endured Harassment for Nine Years

The woman alleged that she tolerated the harassment for years in an effort to save her marriage despite the alleged abuse by her in-laws and her husband's relationship with another woman.

She said she continued trying to resolve the dispute with her husband and in-laws, even after she and her six-year-old son were allegedly forced to leave the house.

After attempts at reconciliation failed, she approached the East Women Police Station with support from her parental family and lodged a complaint seeking legal action.
