Around 200 Students Hospitalised in Anand's Girls’ Hostel Over Supected Food Poisoning Outbreak

More than 200 female students fell severely ill with suspected food poisoning late last night at the Ranak Girls Hostel in Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand, triggering widespread panic and fury among parents.

Students suffered unbearable stomach pain, acute diarrhoea, and vomiting hours after consuming a night meal of paneer vegetable and fruit salad. Emergency services shifted the affected residents to local medical facilities, with over 20 critical cases transferred to private hospitals as their condition rapidly deteriorated.

Investigation Exposes Abysmal Kitchen Hygiene

Local administration officials, alongside teams from the Health Department and the Food and Drugs Department, raided the hostel premises following the midnight emergency. Inspectors uncovered appalling sanitary conditions in the kitchen, accompanied by heavy dirt accumulation and insects infested within grain stores.

Officials seized multiple food samples from the mess and dispatched them for urgent laboratory testing to determine the exact source of contamination.

Immediate Medical Response and Public Anger

The Health Department deployed medical camps directly onto the hostel grounds to monitor recovering residents and screen remaining students. Officials confirmed that timely intervention has stabilised the situation, with the health of all affected students gradually improving.

Meanwhile, angry parents and student bodies have demanded immediate penal action against the hostel management, citing gross negligence and a reckless disregard for student welfare.
