Amreli Liquor Smuggling: 1,968 Bottles Seized From Ambulance In Babra

Babra Police have busted a liquor smuggling operation in Amreli district, seizing 1,968 bottles of foreign liquor worth around ₹3.56 lakh from an ambulance near Utvad. Police said the liquor was hidden in a specially created compartment beneath the stretcher bed inside the patient cabin.

The total value of the seized liquor and ambulance has been estimated at ₹10.66 lakh. Police have arrested Sagar alias Lalo Kamlesh Gohil, a resident of Gondal, in connection with the case.

Liquor Hidden Under Ambulance Stretcher

Acting on a tip-off, Babra Police intercepted an ambulance bearing registration number GJ-05-AV-5525 near Utvad.

During the inspection, police allegedly found a secret compartment beneath the stretcher bed located behind the driver’s seat in the patient cabin. The arrangement was reportedly used to conceal the liquor and transport it without attracting suspicion during police checks.

1,968 Bottles Recovered

Police recovered 1,968 bottles of foreign liquor from the ambulance, with the seized liquor valued at approximately ₹3.56 lakh.

Including the ambulance, the total value of the seized material stands at around ₹10.66 lakh.

Gondal Man Arrested

Police arrested Sagar alias Lalo Kamlesh Gohil of Gondal in connection with the alleged smuggling operation.

The use of an ambulance to transport liquor has drawn attention to the unusual method allegedly adopted to evade detection.

Investigation Into Wider Smuggling Network Underway

Babra Police have launched a further investigation to identify the source of the liquor and determine whether other people were involved in the transportation and distribution network.

Police are also examining the role of other suspects as part of the ongoing investigation.
