Amid Bhavnagar Liquor Tragedy, Amreli Cop Booked For Demanding ₹10,000 Bribe To Restart Liquor Business

The Amreli Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped a 39-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Savarkundla Rural Police Station for allegedly demanding a ₹10,000 bribe from a citizen to allow him to restart an illegal country liquor business.

The accused has been identified as Shyambhai Anantrai Bagda, an ASI posted at Savarkundla Rural Police Station.

ASI Allegedly Threatened Citizen With False Cases

According to the ACB, the complainant had previously been involved in the country liquor business but had stopped the activity.

The accused allegedly pressured him to restart the liquor business and threatened to file false cases against him if he refused.

The ASI allegedly demanded ₹10,000 in exchange for allowing the complainant to restart the business. Following negotiations, the amount was reportedly settled at ₹5,000.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant contacted the ACB through the toll-free 1064 helpline and subsequently lodged a complaint at the Amreli ACB Police Station.

ASI Caught Accepting ₹5,000

Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on August 20.

During the operation, the accused allegedly demanded and accepted ₹5,000 from the complainant. The ACB team caught him at the spot and recovered the entire bribe amount.

The trap was conducted near the entrance of Zaverbhai Patel's farm on a dirt road leading towards Nesdi, in the limits of Oliya village, Savarkundla taluka.

The ACB has initiated legal proceedings against the ASI for allegedly misusing his official position and accepting a bribe.
