A 22-year-old employee has been booked for allegedly stealing 407 pairs of jeans worth more than ₹2 lakh from a wholesale garment shop in Ahmedabad’s Kalupur area before disappearing, police said.

According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Vansh Sindhi, had been working at Pooja Apparels for the past eight months. Police said he had earned the confidence of the shop owner before allegedly making away with the stock.

Employee Goes Missing

The complainant, Hitesh Naranbhai Makhija (30), a resident of Thaltej, told police that he runs the wholesale garment business with his younger brother, Piyush Makhija, from Lakshmi Vishnu Market.

On July 8, at around 4 pm, Hitesh, his brother and Vansh were at the shop when Hitesh stepped out to meet his uncle, Harish Makhija. Before leaving, he asked Vansh to bring the keys to his scooter from inside the shop. After receiving the keys, Hitesh left for the market.

About 30 minutes later, Piyush called Hitesh to ask whether Vansh had gone with him, as the employee was no longer at the shop. When they tried calling Vansh, his mobile phone was found switched off.

Stock Verification Reveals Theft

After returning to the shop, the brothers checked the stock and allegedly found that 407 pairs of jeans of different brands were missing.

Police said purchase and sales records for the past two months were verified, following which the value of the missing stock was estimated at ₹2.01 lakh.

Police Launch Search

Despite repeated attempts to contact Vansh, his phone remained switched off and his whereabouts could not be traced.

The complainant alleged that the employee had taken advantage of the trust placed in him, stolen the merchandise and fled.

Based on the complaint, Kalupur police have registered a case of theft and launched an investigation to trace the accused and recover the stolen jeans.
