Police act on hotel room information
The Crime Branch received a tip at around 11.30 am on August 18 that Nandu and Zala were allegedly staying at Hotel Lake Palace near Vastrapur Lake and had narcotics with them.
Officers reached the hotel and, with the manager’s assistance, went to Room 205 on the second floor. Nandu was allegedly found inside the room, while police said Zala was not there.
A black bag searched by the officers allegedly contained a white powder-filled polythene packet. Investigators also recovered a digital weighing scale, a small zip-lock pouch, two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card.
FSL test indicates mephedrone
The powder was subjected to a preliminary examination by an FSL scientific officer, which indicated the presence of mephedrone.
Police said the packet weighed 23.010 grams along with the substance. Once the 1.500-gram weight of the empty polythene bag was removed, the suspected drug weighed 21.510 grams.
Based on a valuation of ₹3,000 per gram, police put the estimated value of the suspected mephedrone at ₹64,530.
The other items seized included two phones, the pocket weighing machine and the black bag, along with other articles valued at ₹6,700. The total value of all seized property was estimated at ₹71,230.
Alleged supplier remains untraced
Police allege that during questioning, Nandu identified Zala as the person who supplied the suspected mephedrone. She also allegedly told investigators that the two were involved in selling the drug to customers.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
The Crime Branch is now attempting to establish where the suspected mephedrone came from, who it was allegedly intended for and whether the two suspects were connected to a wider synthetic-drug distribution network operating in Ahmedabad.
