UP Worker Dies by Hanging Inside Ahmedabad's Shaherkotda Police Station Following Harassment Complaint

A 38-year-old labourer from Uttar Pradesh died by suicide inside an electrical room at the Shaherkotda police station during the early hours of Tuesday, sparking an urgent administrative inquiry.

Arrival and Initial Police Contact

Raju Ramnakshatra Jatav had travelled from Jamnagar toward his native state by train. After alighting at the Asarwa railway station in Ahmedabad, he dialled the police to report financial distress and alleged harassment by an unidentified individual.

Shelter Provided Amid Heavy Rain

Officers brought Jatav to the Shaherkotda police station to assess his situation. Discovering he lacked funds for onward travel, staff contacted his relatives, who promised to wire money by morning. With heavy rainfall battering the city around 4 am, police permitted him to rest within the premises until the weather cleared.

Discovery Within the Station Premises

During the pre-dawn hours, Jatav walked unobserved to a lower-level electrical room inside the station compound. Investigators confirmed he used the space to hang himself, remaining undetected until station staff discovered the body later that morning.

Senior officials rushed to the scene to review the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Investigators are currently probing both the initial harassment claims raised by Jatav and the internal protocols followed during his hours at the station.
