Traffic Dispute Turns Violent In Dhalgarwad; Shopkeeper, Son, Nephew And Neighbour Injured

An argument over making way through heavy traffic allegedly escalated into a violent attack at a Dhalgarwad shop later the same evening, leaving a 53-year-old shopkeeper, his son, nephew and a neighbouring shopkeeper injured, police said.

The incident began around 3 pm on Thursday near Pankor Naka when the complainant's nephew, Aman, was returning home from college on his Activa, according to a complaint filed at Karanj Police Station.

Argument Over Traffic Allegedly Leads To Assault

According to complainant Mohammad Amin Ahmed Hussain, the rider of a Suzuki Access scooter allegedly asked Aman to move his Activa aside to allow him to pass through the congested stretch.

Aman allegedly replied that there was no space. The Access rider and another man accompanying him allegedly got off their scooter and assaulted Aman with sticks and kicks before leaving the spot.

Aman then returned home and informed his family about the incident, the complaint stated.

Dispute Resurfaces At Dhalgarwad Shop

Around 7 pm, the confrontation allegedly resurfaced at Ahmed Hussain's Alia Fashion shop in Dhalgarwad.

Ahmed Hussain told police that he was at the shop with Aman and had briefly gone to the bathroom when he heard a commotion. On returning, he allegedly found five youths inside the shop, while his son Aqeel was also present.

The complainant alleged that the youths, who had earlier quarrelled with Aman, attacked him with sticks and kicks, striking him on the face and stomach.

When Ahmed Hussain and Aqeel intervened, they too were allegedly assaulted with wooden sticks.

The attackers allegedly dragged the three men from the shop towards the road during the altercation. Ahmed Hussain fell during the scuffle and suffered injuries to his head and forehead, while Aman also sustained a head injury.

Neighbouring Shopkeeper Also Injured

A neighbouring shopkeeper, Zaheerbhai Manyuri, allegedly tried to intervene but was also attacked.

He suffered injuries to his forehead, face and neck, while his OnePlus mobile phone, reportedly worth around ₹20,000, was allegedly damaged.

The complainant further alleged that around seven more youths arrived and joined the attack. They allegedly abused the victims, vandalised the shop and threatened to kill them.

One of the youths, described in the complaint as wearing a black-and-grey T-shirt, allegedly carried a knife and threatened the group.

The alleged assault ended after local residents gathered at the spot and intervened.

Injured Taken To SVP Hospital

Ahmed Hussain and Aman, who were bleeding after the attack, were taken to SVP Hospital for treatment.

Ahmed Hussain received two stitches to his head, while Aman received one stitch. Both were subsequently discharged and went to the police station to lodge a complaint.

The complainant later told police that he learnt the names of several alleged attackers, including Irfan Walibhai Ghanchi, Riyaz Warish, Nur Ahmed Sheikh, Noor Mohammad Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Irfan Yasinbhai Sheikh and Iqbal Yasinbhai Sheikh.

He also alleged that around seven other youths were involved but said he did not know their names or addresses.

Karanj police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the alleged assault, vandalism and threats. The allegations are subject to investigation.
