Ahmedabad Rain Live: Torrential Downpour Batters City, Heavy Rains Trigger Waterlogging

Waterlogging was reported at 18 traffic junctions across Ahmedabad following heavy rainfall. According to the civic administration, water has been cleared from only eight junctions, while the remaining 10 continue to face water accumulation, even four hours after the rain stopped.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation also received complaints of rainwater accumulation at 235 locations, including roads and residential societies. The civic body claimed that water had been drained from 70 locations, while work at other sites remains pending.

The AMC received 45 complaints regarding fallen trees following the rainfall. Deputy Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Gurav said that clearance work had been completed at three locations, while operations were continuing at the remaining sites.

Rainwater reportedly reached the entrances of houses in the Khokhra Housing Board area, increasing difficulties for residents. Waterlogging in residential localities has raised concerns among locals.

Water entered the premises of Archana High School, Udgam High School and The Mother English Medium School, creating difficulties for students and school authorities.

While academic activities continued inside classrooms, rainwater entered the school campuses, forcing students to move through flooded areas. The waterlogging raised concerns over student safety and the disruption of educational activities.

Several societies in Bhaipura ward, including areas along the 132 Feet Ring Road in Hatkeshwar, also witnessed water accumulation. Residents of low-lying areas faced significant inconvenience as rainwater collected on roads and near residential buildings.

Hatkeshwar Circle appeared to have turned into a lake, causing significant inconvenience to commuters as rainwater accumulated across the junction.

The main road connecting Hatkeshwar to Khokhra was submerged, resulting in heavy traffic congestion. The road from Hatkeshwar towards CTM also witnessed waterlogging at several points. Commuters travelling between Amraiwadi and Hatkeshwar faced further difficulties due to recurring water accumulation.

In Khokhra, rainwater reached the entrances of houses in Gujarat Housing Board colonies. Waterlogging near Goran Kuva in Maninagar also inconvenienced residents and motorists.

Several other locations, including Guruji Overbridge towards Hatkeshwar and roads near Seven Day School, reported water accumulation. Waterlogging near the Punitnagar railway crossing also disrupted movement.

Ahmedabad witnessed intense rainfall, with the city receiving more than 2 inches of rain within 45–60 minutes, according to updates. Very heavy rainfall exceeding 3–4 inches was reported in areas including Tagore, Usmanpura, Vasna, Ranip, Navrangpura, Thaltej, Ognaj, Memnagar, Sarkhej, Bakrol, Dudheshwar, Kalupur and Asarwa.

Sarkhej Urban Health Centre recorded the highest rainfall at 116 mm, followed by Sarkhej and Bakrol, which received 82.5 mm each. Vasna recorded 82 mm, while Navrangpura received 90.5 mm during the period. 

Several parts of Ahmedabad witnessed heavy rainfall between 6 am and 9 am today, according to data released by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

The city recorded an average rainfall of 54.41 mm during the three-hour period, while the seasonal rainfall total reached 864.14 mm (34.03 inches), accounting for 94.53% of the five-year seasonal average

AMC has started waterlogging removal work at the catchpit near Shela village and Thaltej to clear accumulated rainwater.
