Police in Ahmedabad are investigating a burglary in which thieves emptied a safe and a cupboard in a locked house in Satellite, then took the CCTV recorder and Wi-Fi router, apparently to destroy evidence. The owners are in the United States.
The house is at No. 6, Jeevan Asha Society, near Kenyug Apartments in the Manekbaug area. The intruders entered by bending the bars of the master bedroom window. They opened the locks of the safe and the cupboard and left with 2,500 UAE dirhams and 1.5 kg of silver coins, together valued at ₹2.90 lakh.
Satellite police have registered a case and begun an investigation. It is based on a complaint from the owner’s brother-in-law, a businessman who lives in Paldi.
Camera Outage Raised the Alarm
The house belongs to Kartikbhai Shah and his wife, Sonalben. Their son and daughter work in the US, and the couple travelled there about three months ago.
On September 22, Kartikbhai phoned his brother-in-law, Ashishbhai, from the US. He said the house’s CCTV cameras had stopped working because of an internet outage that began at 12 noon on September 19, and asked him to check the property.
On the evening of September 23, Ashishbhai went to his sister’s home with his wife to inspect it.
Recorder and Router Missing, Bars Pried Open
Inside, they found that the CCTV DVR and the Wi-Fi router were missing from the drawer of the TV unit, with loose wires hanging down. A search of the house showed that the master bedroom’s window bars had been pried open with a tool and that belongings were scattered about.
The couple found that 2,500 dirhams had been taken from the safe. From the cupboard, 1.5 kg of silver utensils and coins were missing.
Complaint Filed Against Unknown Person
Ashishbhai Arvindbhai Soni, 60, runs a furniture business in Anandnagar. He lives in Harshanti Society on Prabhudas Thakkar College Road in the Shantivan area of Paldi. Sonalben is his elder sister.
He subsequently lodged a complaint against an unknown thief at Satellite police station. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
