According to the complaint, police personnel were deployed around Sarangpur Circle for traffic management and security arrangements when a Swift car allegedly approached at high speed from the Kagdapith side.
The car allegedly collided with an Activa travelling ahead of it, causing the couple riding the scooter, identified as Prembhai Varjani and his wife Veenaben, to fall onto the road and suffer injuries.
Police personnel at the circle attempted to stop the driver after the collision.
Driver Allegedly Runs Over TRB Jawan
Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly accelerated, took a U-turn onto the wrong side of the road towards Kalupur In-gate and sped back in the direction of Kagdapith.
When TRB jawan Mayursinh Puvar, who was on duty, attempted to stop the car, the driver allegedly ran the vehicle over his legs.
Police immediately pursued the car and eventually intercepted the driver.
The accused was identified as Ayan Qureshi, 21, a resident of Surendranagar.
Police have detained Qureshi and registered a case in connection with the collision, the alleged attempt to flee and the injury caused to the on-duty TRB jawan. Further investigation is underway.
