Sola STP Tragedy: Contractor to Pay ₹30 Lakh to Each Victim’s Family, Fund Children’s Education

The contractor responsible for operations at Ahmedabad’s Sola Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) will pay ₹30 lakh to each of the two families who lost members in the fatal accident and cover their children’s education costs.

Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel announced the compensation after a committee meeting. The proposed compensation was earlier ₹25 lakh per family but has now been increased to ₹30 lakh.

The contractor has also agreed to bear the entire cost of education for the young children of both deceased workers.

Police Probe to Establish Contractor’s Responsibility

A police investigation is underway to establish accountability for the accident. Patel said preliminary findings indicate that the contractor remains responsible until the work is fully completed.

However, the final responsibility will be determined after the police investigation concludes.

The probe will also examine whether workers were provided with the required safety equipment and whether they used it properly while carrying out the work. Investigators will assess these aspects before establishing the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has also issued a notice to the contractor seeking payment of a ₹50 lakh fine.

30 Development Projects Worth ₹1,024 Crore on November 9

Separately, 30 development projects worth ₹1,024 crore will be inaugurated or have their foundation stones laid on November 9 in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah will chair the event. The projects include housing schemes, water supply initiatives and other infrastructure works aimed at improving civic amenities.

AMC Makes Special Diwali Arrangements for Waste Clearance and Fire Safety

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has put special arrangements in place to maintain cleanliness and ensure fire safety during Diwali.

Teams will clear firecracker waste from roads and dispose of it overnight to prevent debris from accumulating across the city.

The fire brigade has also been directed to remain on high alert and keep personnel ready to respond to emergencies. Municipal hospital staff will remain on standby to provide immediate medical assistance in case of fire-related injuries or other incidents.
