Software Engineer Allegedly Locks Wife, Her Father in Ahmedabad, Rescued by Abhayam Team

A software engineer allegedly locked his wife and her father inside their house in Ahmedabad after learning that the woman had recorded audio of her father-in-law’s alleged obscene conversations. The woman’s father had travelled from Bihar to take his daughter back to her parental home, but the husband allegedly confined both of them and threatened to kill his wife. The father later sought help through the 181 Abhayam helpline, following which the Abhayam team rescued them.

Woman Allegedly Harassed Over Dowry Demands

The woman, originally from Bihar, married the Ahmedabad-based software engineer around three years ago. According to the complaint received by the 181 Abhayam team, her family had provided the dowry items allegedly demanded by her in-laws, including a car worth ₹2 lakh.

Despite this, she was allegedly subjected to continued mental harassment over further dowry demands. Amid the disputes, she had earlier returned to her parental home but came back to her matrimonial home around three months ago.

She was living in a joint family, where her father-in-law allegedly used obscene language and behaved inappropriately with her during phone conversations. The woman reportedly informed her husband about his father’s alleged behaviour, but no action was taken.

Woman Recorded Alleged Conversations

The woman had reportedly recorded audio of her father-in-law’s alleged inappropriate conversations on her mobile phone, intending to keep it as evidence.

When her husband allegedly learnt about the recordings, he feared that she might leave the house and reveal the matter to others. He allegedly threatened to kill her and subsequently locked her and her father inside the house.

The woman’s father had arrived from Bihar to take his daughter back after learning about the situation. However, he too was allegedly locked inside the house.

After managing to get the lock opened and coming outside, he contacted the 181 Abhayam helpline seeking assistance.

181 Abhayam Team Rescues Father And Daughter

The Abhayam team reached the spot and rescued the woman and her father. The team then conducted counselling and informed them about the legal options available to them.

The woman was also helped in collecting her essential belongings from the matrimonial home.

Since she did not wish to file a police complaint at that time, the Abhayam team safely sent her to her parental home along with her father.

‘My Life Is In Danger In This House’

During the counselling session, the woman reportedly broke down while describing her experience to the Abhayam team.

She told the team that she feared for her life inside the house and did not feel safe staying there. She clearly stated that she did not want to return to her in-laws’ home.

Following her refusal to stay at the matrimonial home, the Abhayam team ensured that she received her essential belongings and was safely handed over to her father.
