Sardarnagar Domestic Violence: Woman Attacked by In-Laws with Brick and Knife Upon Return Home

A 28-year-old mother of three suffered severe head and hand injuries after being brutally assaulted by her husband and in-laws upon returning to her marital home in Sardarnagar’s Ambawadi area on September 18.

The victim is a homemaker while her husband takes up daily wage labour. She had been staying at her parental home in Nobalnagar since Rakshabandhan following persistent harassment. Though her husband had argued with her during a recent visit to fetch her, she returned to her marital home with her three children around 9 PM on September 18, demanding peaceful cohabitation.

Escalation at the Threshold

Upon her arrival, the mother-in-law forcibly pushed her out of the house and locked the front door. When the victim suggested a formal community divorce if they refused to keep her, her sister-in-law joined the altercation, demanding she leave immediately with her children.

The conflict intensified when the husband arrived, threatening to summon village elders to finalize an immediate divorce. When the woman tried to calm him down, he twisted both her hands.

Violent Assault and Police Action

The situation turned dangerous when the brother-in-law joined the fray and struck her head with a brick. Simultaneously, the husband pulled out a knife and slashed the fingers of both her hands. Despite her bleeding profusely, the family continued to assault her until local residents intervened and summoned a 108 ambulance.

Emergency personnel transported the victim to Civil Hospital, where doctors administered four stitches to her head wounds. Based on her account, the Airport Police Station registered a case against four members of her marital family, including her husband, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, and initiated a formal investigation.
