Rainwater Leaks Into B1 Coach Of Gujarat Mail, Passengers Face Ordeal

Passengers aboard the 12902 Gujarat Mail travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai (Dadar) faced considerable inconvenience after rainwater reportedly seeped into the B1 coach on the night of September 12.

A video of the incident has surfaced showing water dripping from the roof of the coach as the train travelled towards Mumbai. The leakage reportedly caused water to accumulate on seats and in the aisle, inconveniencing passengers during the journey.

The incident has raised questions over the maintenance of the premium-category train, particularly the condition of its roof, ceiling and waterproofing arrangements during the monsoon.

Questions Over Coach Maintenance

Passengers said the water leakage created a situation resembling a waterfall inside the coach, with rainwater continuing to drip from the roof.

The incident has sparked concerns over whether the coaches are being adequately inspected and maintained during the monsoon season. Proper checks of roofs, ceilings and waterproofing systems are crucial to prevent water from entering passenger compartments.

The incident has also led to criticism of the railway maintenance system, with passengers questioning how a premium-category train could experience such leakage during rainfall.

Passengers paying premium fares expect basic amenities, cleanliness, safety and a comfortable journey. The video showing water entering the coach has therefore triggered demands for an explanation and corrective action.

As of now, Western Railway and the concerned maintenance department have not issued any official clarification regarding the incident. The circulation of the video has also prompted calls for an inquiry into the condition and maintenance of the affected coach.
