Railway officials in Ahmedabad have alleged that two men fabricated a ₹40 lakh furniture scam claim, altered official documents and circulated them on social media to pressure an officer over an alleged money demand.

The complaint was filed on October 1 by Mayursinh Prabhusinh Rajput, 33, a Senior Commercial Clerk in the Catering Cell of the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway. Shaherkotda police have registered a case against Yogesh Mishra and his associate Ankit Pandey.

Railway Work Order Was for ₹4.80 Lakh

The dispute relates to a furniture-repair work order issued by the Commercial Department's Stores Cell in June 2026.

According to the complaint, the railway issued the work order to Ashapura Foam and Furniture, Asarwa, on June 24 for ₹4.80 lakh. The work involved repairing old furniture at stations between Sabarmati and Palanpur, including VIP waiting rooms and booking and parcel offices.

Railway officials said the work was examined by the Accounts Department and payment was made after completion.

The complaint also states that:

  • No new chairs, sofas or other furniture were purchased under the work order.
  • No government funds were used to repair or decorate any railway officer's residence.
  • The sanctioned work order was worth ₹4.80 lakh, not ₹40 lakh.
  • The records did not show the alleged furniture scam circulated on social media.

Officer Allegedly Faced Money Demand

The complaint alleges that Mishra, who frequently visited the Ahmedabad railway office, approached Assistant Commercial Manager Yajush Acharya on September 12.

Mishra allegedly accused railway officials of purchasing items through false bills and using them for personal benefit. He allegedly demanded money from Acharya.

When Acharya refused, Mishra allegedly threatened to defame and harass him and said he would raise the matter on social media, according to the complaint.

₹40 Lakh Claim Circulated on Social Media

The alleged campaign escalated on September 24, when Pandey, described in the complaint as Mishra's friend, posted a message on the Ahmedabad DRM's X account using the handle @AnkitPandey_07.

The post allegedly claimed that a scam involving more than ₹40 lakh had taken place in the name of furniture in the Ahmedabad division.

The complainant alleged that copies of railway work orders and other official documents were obtained and edited before being circulated on social media.

Similar material was allegedly published on railsamachar.com on September 24 and 25.

The complaint also alleges that the material was circulated through WhatsApp messages sent to railway officers and employees.

Police Examining Documents and Social Media Posts

Railway officials alleged that the circulation of the material was intended to damage the reputation of railway officers and put pressure on them to meet the alleged financial demand.

The Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Ahmedabad division authorised Rajput to lodge the complaint.

Shaherkotda Police have registered a case against Mishra and Pandey. The investigation is examining the source of the railway documents, alleged alterations to them, the social media posts and WhatsApp messages, and the circumstances surrounding the alleged demand for money.
