The video came to the attention of Navrangpura police after it was uploaded on an Instagram account. Taking note of the alleged dangerous driving, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1) Dr Harshad Patel and Assistant Commissioner of Police (B-Division) H M Kansagra directed officers to identify the driver and vehicle.
Teams from the Navrangpura police station's surveillance squad and the Law Garden police outpost began examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the Porsche.
Driver Traced Within Hours
During the investigation, police found CCTV footage showing the Porsche allegedly being driven at high speed on the road on August 22.
The vehicle was subsequently traced and police identified the driver as Mohammad Akran, 24, a resident of Limbdiya in Gandhinagar district.
Police detained Akran along with the Porsche within a few hours of launching the investigation, officials said.
Porsche Impounded, Case Registered
Navrangpura police registered a case against Akran under the relevant provision of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to rash or negligent driving on a public way, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Porsche has been impounded as part of the investigation.
Police are examining the video footage, CCTV recordings and other available evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged reckless driving.
The incident comes amid continued police scrutiny of dangerous driving and social media videos showing motorists allegedly violating traffic rules on Ahmedabad's roads.
