Pirana Dumping Site: AMC Worker Allegedly Attacked, Hand Fractured Amid Waste Pickers’ Dispute

An AMC worker was allegedly attacked at the Pirana dumping site during a dispute with people collecting waste, with his hand reportedly fractured, MLA Amit Shah has told the municipal commissioner.

Shah has urged the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to regulate access to the dumping ground and prevent crowds from gathering around vehicles unloading waste.

Crowds Gather Around Waste Vehicles

According to Shah, large numbers of waste pickers gather when heavy vehicles arrive at the Pirana dumping site to unload garbage.

They allegedly surround the vehicles as waste is being dumped and rush to collect recyclable material immediately afterwards. The crowding raises the risk of accidents, particularly because waste is sometimes unloaded from a height.

AMC Worker Allegedly Suffers Fracture

Shah said that a recent confrontation involving some people collecting waste led to an alleged assault on an AMC employee.

The worker reportedly suffered a fracture to his hand in the incident. The allegations have raised concerns over the safety of municipal staff working at the dumping site.

MLA Seeks Entry Controls

Shah has asked the municipal commissioner to introduce measures to control the entry of people coming to collect waste at the Pirana site.

The representation also seeks arrangements to ensure that people do not crowd around garbage vehicles during unloading and that AMC employees can carry out their duties without obstruction or confrontation.
