According to officials, the raid was conducted late on August 10 at a flat in Kalasagar Heights near the Bank of Baroda in New Ranip, following a tip-off that the occupant was allegedly inviting people to play cards for monetary stakes.

The team reached H/501 of Kalasagar Heights and found the door partially open. Several people were allegedly sitting on a mat inside the hall with playing cards in their hands, while cash was lying around them.
Police identified the flat’s occupant as 38-year-old Gautam Kantibhai Patel.
Patel allegedly told the police that he had called the others to his flat to play cards for money and charged ₹12,000 per game. Police subsequently searched the accused and seized cash and mobile phones from them.
The other seven accused were identified as Sanshibhai Rameshbhai Patel, 46; Mandeepbhai Kiritbhai Patel, 34; Mitbhai Bharatbhai Patel, 32; Ankitbhai Jayantibhai Patel, 40; Priyank Chinubhai Soni, 42; Shailesh Hasmukhlal Pandya, 48; and Viral Ghanshyambhai Soni, 33.
₹3.55 Lakh Cash, 10 Mobile Phones Seized
Police said ₹3.55 lakh in cash was recovered from the accused and the premises. Ten mobile phones, collectively valued at around ₹4.10 lakh, were also seized.
Four vehicles linked to the accused were subsequently identified in the parking area. These included three Hyundai Creta cars and a Suzuki Access scooter. The three Creta cars were valued at approximately ₹10 lakh each, while the two-wheeler was valued at around ₹50,000.
Police also seized 104 playing cards, blank papers, a pad, an aluminium container and other articles allegedly used in the gambling activity.

The total value of the seized cash, mobile phones, vehicles and other articles was estimated at ₹38.15 lakh.
The PCB registered a case against the eight accused under relevant sections of the Gujarat Prevention of Gambling Act. Police said further investigation was under way and that additional accused, if identified during the probe, would also be proceeded against.
