Cab Aggregators Continue Showing Tip Option in Ahmedabad Despite Instructions to Remove It

Online cab and auto-rickshaw booking platforms in Ahmedabad are reportedly continuing to display the ‘tip’ option despite a directive from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to remove the facility from the booking process.

The ministry had instructed online taxi and auto-rickshaw aggregators to remove any option allowing passengers to pay additional money as a tip at the time of booking and until the ride is completed.

Private And Government-Linked Apps Still Show Tip Option

According to the information, major platforms including Ola, Uber and Rapido, along with government-associated Bharat Taxi, continue to have the tip option available for users in Ahmedabad.

The ministry's directive stated that displaying or seeking additional payment before or during a trip amounts to a violation of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.

Under the instructions, the tip option should not be displayed when a ride is booked or while the journey is underway. The option can be shown only after the ride has been completed.

Passengers Allegedly Asked For Additional Payment

Despite the directive, the tip option reportedly remains visible on cab-booking applications operating in Ahmedabad under different labels.

According to complaints, some drivers allegedly refuse to accept rides unless passengers add the additional amount shown as a tip. This has reportedly resulted in passengers having to pay more than the basic fare to secure a ride and reach their destinations.

The continued availability of the tip facility has raised questions over the implementation of the ministry's directive and monitoring of cab and auto aggregators in Ahmedabad.
