Two men on a motorcycle allegedly snatched a purse containing a ₹50,000 iPhone 16 Pro from a National Institute of Design (NID) student near Anjali Bridge in Ahmedabad at around 3.30 am on Monday, as she was returning to the institute with a friend after a Garba event.

Paldi police have registered a case against the unidentified suspects and launched an investigation.

Suspects Flee Towards Mahalaxmi Crossroads

According to the complaint, 19-year-old Shrisha Kamboj, a fifth-semester student of Ceramic and Glass Design at NID, attended a Garba event on the institute’s campus on October 11.

Later that night, she and her friend Riya Mehta went to a café on CG Road in Navrangpura for a late-night meal before returning towards the institute at around 3 am. After dropping another friend near Jivraj Hospital, the two women were travelling near Anjali Bridge when two men on a motorcycle approached them from behind.

The pillion rider allegedly snatched the purse carried by Mehta, which contained Kamboj’s gold-coloured iPhone 16 Pro, before fleeing towards Mahalaxmi Crossroads.

Women Fail to Catch Suspects

Kamboj told police that the pillion rider appeared to be around 25 years old and was wearing a red shirt. The women tried to chase the suspects but could not catch them or note the motorcycle’s registration number.

They alerted the police control room, and a police vehicle arrived to assist them. Kamboj later returned to the police station with the phone’s purchase bill to complete the complaint.

The stolen iPhone has been valued at approximately ₹50,000. Police are investigating the incident and attempting to identify the two suspects.
