Nephew, Sister-In-Law Booked For Allegedly Forging Partner’s Signature To Take Over Changodar Flour Mill

While a partner of a Changodar flour mill was battling a serious liver ailment and undergoing a transplant, his nephew allegedly forged his signature on a consent letter, got the document notarised and used it to obtain a fresh GST registration in an alleged attempt to take control of the business.

The alleged fraud, involving a financial loss of ₹30 lakh, has now led to a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch against the nephew and his mother.

According to the complaint, the alleged fraud centred on M/s Hemraj Flour Mill, located at Ashwamegh Industrial Estate in Changodar.

Business Dispute Turns Into Alleged Forgery Case

The complainant, 58-year-old Nilin Modi, a resident of Shela, stated that his father had purchased Shed No. 11-A at Ashwamegh Industrial Estate in 1997.

In 1999, Nilin Modi and his elder brother Vijay Modi started M/s Hemraj Flour Mill as partners. The brothers continued to jointly manage the business even after their father's death.

Following Vijay Modi's death on January 10, 2023, his son Dhrumil Modi began managing the factory, allegedly without formal authorisation.

According to the complaint, Dhrumil continued making online payments to Nilin Modi until June 2023.

Alleged Forged Consent Letter Prepared During Treatment

At the time, Nilin Modi was suffering from a serious liver ailment and was admitted to IKDRC at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital campus for treatment. He subsequently underwent a liver transplant and was in critical condition, according to the complaint.

Police were told that during this period, on July 18, 2023, Dhrumil allegedly prepared a consent letter carrying a forged signature of Nilin Modi.

The complaint further alleges that Dhrumil's mother, Mitaben Modi, got the document notarised by Notary Ritaben Gandhi.

The following day, on July 19, 2023, the alleged forged consent letter was submitted as a genuine document to obtain a new GST registration number.

According to the complaint, Dhrumil added his own name and the address of the Changodar factory linked to the B.H. Modi firm during the registration process.

Partner Allegedly Denied Access To Factory

After recovering from his treatment, Nilin Modi reportedly sought details of the business accounts from Dhrumil.

According to the complaint, Dhrumil allegedly avoided providing the accounts.

The dispute escalated in November 2024, when Nilin Modi visited the factory but was allegedly denied entry.

The complainant later became aware of the alleged forged consent letter after receiving a summons connected with a civil suit filed in the Sanand Court.

₹30 Lakh Loss Alleged

According to the complaint, the forged document and subsequent GST registration were part of an attempt to take control of the flour mill, causing a financial loss estimated at ₹30 lakh.

Nilin Modi subsequently approached the Economic Offences Wing of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, naming his nephew Dhrumil Modi and sister-in-law Mitaben Modi as accused.

The Crime Branch has registered a case and launched an investigation into the alleged forgery, fraudulent GST registration and financial loss.

The allegations against the accused are yet to be established in court.
