A woman living in the neighbourhood allegedly lured a 14-year-old boy with promises of money and got him to steal gold and silver jewellery worth ₹1.98 lakh from his own home in Ahmedabad’s Singarva area, Odhav. The matter came to light when the boy’s father opened the family safe and discovered that the jewellery was missing. During questioning, the frightened teenager allegedly broke down and revealed the role of his neighbour, Anjanaben Pandya.

The boy’s father, Brijeshbhai Yadav, has lodged a complaint at the Odhav police station, alleging that Pandya deceived and induced his minor son to steal the jewellery. Police have registered a case and begun an investigation.

Mobile Repairing Excuse Used To Call Minor Home

Yadav, who lives in the Singarva area and works in fabrication to support his family, noticed the missing jewellery in August when he needed money and checked the safe.

The following morning, as his 14-year-old son was leaving for school, the boy began crying and disclosed what had happened, according to the complaint.

The minor allegedly told his family that Pandya had called him to her house on the pretext that her mobile phone was not working. She then allegedly asked him whether there was any jewellery kept at his home.

The boy initially refused to provide any information. However, the woman allegedly gave him ₹500 and promised him more money, following which he agreed to remove the jewellery from his house.

Jewellery Handed Over In Instalments

According to the complaint, the minor took jewellery belonging to his deceased mother from the safe and placed it in his school bag. He allegedly handed over the jewellery to Pandya in instalments.

The woman allegedly gave him ₹5,000 initially and later another ₹70,000 in exchange for the jewellery. She also allegedly warned and persuaded him not to disclose the matter to anyone.

Woman Allegedly Claimed Jewellery Was Given To Goldsmith

After the family discovered the theft, Yadav confronted the woman and demanded that the jewellery be returned.

However, Pandya allegedly claimed that she had handed the jewellery over to a goldsmith for sale and subsequently gave assurances that it would be returned. The jewellery and the money were ultimately not returned, according to the complaint.

With no recovery of the jewellery or money, Yadav approached the Odhav police station and filed a complaint against the neighbour.

Police have registered the case and are investigating the circumstances in which the jewellery was handed over, its whereabouts and the allegations made by the minor and his family.
